Additional Info
Due to the launch of the new heritage decree in 2014, the need became clear to develop a new and integral architectural vision for the ICT support of heritage processes. The agency aims to implement a complete Service Oriented Architecture that strongly emphasizes the underlying authentic data sources. We strive for a 'Resource Oriented Architecture'. In our architecture, the functionalities and information of various applications are unlocked through a clearly defined service layer. Applications may only interact with information from other applications via such services. This limits all dependencies between applications to the consumed services. The overall architecture contains numerous internal sub-components such as a thesaurus, image bank, management plans, geoportal, geo-search services module, application 'premiums', document generator, post-registration, ... An additional architectural feature is that the various sources can be geographically related (objects, plans, areas, finds, ...). Significant attention is paid to fully integrating map functionalities throughout the application architecture. A third architectural choice is the preferred use of open source components. We have about thirty applications for which we schedule maintenance releases. Additionally, we always have several ongoing projects. This can involve larger changes to an existing application or setting up an entirely new application. This provides a lot of variety but does require a certain flexibility. Heritage works on a service-oriented architecture with a strong emphasis on open source components and the integration of geo-functionalities. For this, experience with the technology stack & principles below is crucial.
